In this course, students will get introduced to visual block-based coding through the tool called Scratch, which has been developed by MIT for children. Students learn fundamental coding concepts while building games, animations and stories. The course will be 18 weeks long with one 85-minutes lesson every week. It will be divided into 2 units and each unit will consist of 9 lessons. You can register your child for Unit 1 and Unit 2 separately, or both the units together. In the first 9 lessons under Unit 1, the students will get familiar with important coding concepts such as sequencing, loops, events, conditionals and variables through the various blocks in Scratch. Using these concepts, they will build various animations and simple games. In the Unit 2 lessons, students will learn storytelling techniques by utilizing the various features of Scratch. This will encourage creativity among young children. Finally, the students will utilize their learning by creating advanced games including a racing game, a maze and a platformer! Duration: 25.5 Hours - one 85 minute lesson per week for 18 weeks.
