This course is designed to be a fun introduction to coding for Grade 1 and 2 students. Through a series of interactive puzzles such as helping a beaver build a dam, helping an angry bird reach a pig, drawing a garden etc. students are introduced to fundamental coding concepts such as sequencing, loops and conditionals. Towards the end of the course, students are introduced to Scratch - a powerful visual programming tool developed by MIT, that will help the kids to explore coding further as well as express their creativity.
The course consists of 20 lessons divided into 2 units of 10 lessons each. Each lesson is of 1 hour (60 minutes) duration. For this cohort, classes will be held once every week on Sundays.
In Unit 1, students are introduced to sequencing and simple loops through a series of interactive puzzles. In Unit 2, students learn about more advanced loops and conditionals in addition to being introduced to Scratch.
After completion of this course, students will have a good understanding of basic coding concepts and will be ready to move on to Code Knights 2.
